CHEO acknowledges that the Lord Jesus Christ must be central and supreme in the rearing of our children, and that Biblical education is an inseparable part of the Christian faith. CHEO seeks to preserve the God-given, constitutional right to home educate, and to support and encourage families in fulfilling this Biblical responsibility.

A Visit with Rick Boyer

We would like to thank Rick for taking the time to share his heart regarding parenting, homeschooling, and the upcoming CHEO Family Discipleship Seminar. Read his wife Marilyn's interview here.
*
Can you please tell us when you first began to have a heart to share what you have learned with other parents? How did you first begin?
I wanted to share what we were experiencing with our children from the first year we started home schooling, 1980. Just a few weeks into kindergarten with our oldest son, we got really excited by what we were seeing in him and wanted to pass on the blessing. We didn’t know anybody else who was home educating then.
*
What has been the biggest blessing in your parenting?
To see my children walk with God in their own personal faith. Second, the great relationships they have with their parents, their spouses and children and their siblings. My children are each other’s best friends, and that is a treasure I could never put a price on.
*
What has been the biggest struggle in your parenting?
My biggest struggle was with my own sin nature. Most of the challenges I had with my children were because of my own failings. Thank God that He overrules our sinful nature and gives us better than we deserve!
*
What is your favorite Bible verse/passage/book that strengthens and encourages you?
My favorite is Philippians 1:6. God promises that He is at work in us, has been and will continue to be. That means a lot when I look at my inadequacies to be a good dad on my own.
*
What is your favorite workshop to teach and why?
Hard to say, I enjoy so many of them so much. I do love the one on “socialization” because we can all identify with that common challenge. Yet the evidence of research, as well as Scripture and logic, are all on our side. It’s a lot of fun to speak with moms and dads on that one, and lots of natural humor in it. I also love Take Back the Land, which was originally a graduation speech. Young people as well as parents want to feel that their lives are significant and that they really can be used of God to accomplish great things as we engage our culture and make a difference for God.
*
What do you hope to impart to the families attending CHEO's Family Discipleship Seminar?
I hope to share both vision and encouragement, while at the same time having a hootin’ good time together. God is raising up home schooling families to lead our nation America back to Him. It’s a great day to be God’s commandos in America!
